BENTELER honors winners of GENIUS Awards 2018 in Berlin

Paderborn/Berlin, October 12, 2018. Digitalization, networking, e-mobility - numerous technological changes shape the development of our mobility. The GENIUS Award initiated by the Handelsblatt paper gives the ideas of tomorrow their own platform for the very first time: The award focuses on products, services and business models which represent a significant change for mobility. On the evening of October 11, 2018, the time had finally come: The award was presented at a ceremony in Berlin. Ralf Göttel, Chairman of the Executive Board BENTELER International AG and Chief Executive Officer BENTELER Automotive, honored the winner of the category “Inspiring Innovation”. The award was bestowed on the Bremen-based company RYTLE for its logistics solution “THE SMART MOVE”.

BENTELER gives award to intelligent overall system for environment-friendly intra-city logistics

The Bremen-based hardware and software supplier offers a revolutionary development for intra-city transport to customers through its holistic logistics solution. It consists of an electric cargo bike for transporting small containers and a mobile depot. At this station, the bikes are loaded with new containers after successful delivery. An app is used to link the entire system, allowing all components to be coordinated with each other. RYTLE is already using this system with great success in various European cities. In the face of increasing environmental pollution and clogging of inner city streets, this concept provides an approach for progressive, fast and environment-friendly logistics in the world of tomorrow.

Incentives for innovation

The partnership with GENIUS strengthens BENTELER’s contacts with start-ups and potential partners. New incentives also make it easier to anticipate trends and strengthen BENTELER’s own innovative energy. “The world of mobility is facing change. With the GENIUS Award we want to bring entrepreneurs into the public, who will help to shape this change with their ideas,” underlines Sebastian Matthes, Head of Digital and deputy editor-in-chief at Handelsblatt. For instance, one in ten battery trays worldwide is now produced by BENTELER. In Europe it is half of all battery trays.

Ralf Göttel highlighted the importance of new incentives for sustainable innovation once again in his speech: “Rising pressure to innovate, rapid technological change and ever more complex requirements - the demand for new solutions in the mobility sector is growing more and more. Inspiring ideas for the mobility of the future are in higher demand than ever before. Events like this award contribute to making innovative potential in the automotive industry more visible.”

In total, over 90 start-ups, established companies, communities and associations submitted their applications.
